Tamzin is an experienced trial lawyer. She has also appeared as Counsel assisting the Coroner, at judicial inquiries, and in the Children’s, Family Violence and Circle Sentencing Court. She has Supreme Court appellate and trial experience in both the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.
Tamzin was admitted whilst working as associate to Chief Justice Higgins, former Chief Justice of the ACT Supreme Court and a Judge of the Federal Court. She was a prosecutor with the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions, before returning to Darwin in 2012 as the Principal Legal Officer of the North Australian Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service where she oversaw the establishment of appellate, child protection and family law practices.
Recently Tamzin was part of the criminal defence team at the Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service in Alice Springs before returning to Darwin to join the bar.
Tamzin has experience in criminal law, including in prosecuting and defending charges of family violence, sexual assault, drug possession and trafficking, as well as regulatory offences under the Traffic, Road Transport, Animal Welfare, and Liquor Acts. She has also worked in administrative, family, domestic violence, and care and protection matters. She has extensive experience with victims of crime compensation and has provided submissions to the Productivity Commission and other Government inquiries in relation to various legal issues, including changes to sexual assault trial procedure and access legal assistance.
Tamzin is on the executive council of Family Day Care Australia and is also currently working as a co-coordinator on the Charles Darwin University Indigenous Justice project.
