WFC member admitted to the International Criminal Court’s List of Counsel

Lyma Nguyen of William Forster Chambers has been admitted to the List of Counsel before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC, established under the Rome Statute, has a mandate to prosecute and punish persons responsible for the most serious crimes of concern to the international community.  Victims, accused persons and, in some cases, suspects of serious international crimes have the right to be assisted by counsel, and the ICC endeavours to offer these individuals a pool of highly qualified counsel.

International Counsel admitted on the ICC register must meet the requirements of competence, over 10 years of relevant experience and proficient language skills for practice in international criminal law, as well a record of high standing required of the profession.

Lyma’s inclusion on the ICC List of Counsel is a testament to the quality of her international practice, where she represents victims of genocide and other atrocity crimes before the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.  Lyma has also been recognised domestically as one of 45  “Trailblazing Australian Woman Lawyers”, whose oral history is included in the archives of the National Library of Australia.
