Career
Fiona practises as a barrister, arbitrator and mediator in relation to disputes across Australia and internationally.
Her areas of expertise include technology, engineering and construction disputes; transport, aviation and maritime law; complex commercial; and taxation matters. She is recommended in Doyle’s Guides to Leading Construction and Infrastructure Junior Counsel, and to Leading Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Junior Counsel. Fiona also has an interest in sports law, and sits as a member of the Victorian Amateur Football Association’s Independent Integrity Hearing Panel.
She joined the Victorian Bar in 2015 (and the Northern Territory Bar in 2021), and has since advised and appeared in a number of significant matters both before the courts and in other fora, including:
- Acting for a public water authority in relation to a large-scale dispute concerning the design and construction of a recycled water treatment plant
- Advising in relation to international arbitral proceedings under Singaporean and Australian law concerning an LNG project
- Acting for contractors in disputes concerning energy projects such as wind farms and solar
- Appearing and drawing documents in relation to applications for special leave to appeal to the High Court in taxation and commercial law matters
- Acting on behalf of the Commissioner of Taxation and taxpayers in relation to transfer pricing disputes
- Acting on behalf of a developer in relation to Supreme Court proceedings regarding a proposed development near the Darwin CBD
- Acting on behalf of a local council in relation to a proposed compulsory acquisition of land by the NT Government
- Appearing on behalf of interested parties in the Victorian Royal Commission in the Casino Operator and Licence (the Crown Casino Royal Commission)
Before joining the Bar, Fiona was Associate to the Honourable Justice Pagone of the Federal Court of Australia, assisting his Honour in a wide range of commercial and public law matters. Prior to this, Fiona was an Associate at the Supreme Court of Victoria to Justices Davies, Bongiorno and Hargrave, where she assisted in matters in the commercial trial division and in criminal and civil appeals. Fiona was previously employed by Crawford Legal, an Adelaide-based boutique commercial and construction law firm.
Fiona has been recognised in Doyle’s Guides to Leading Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Junior Counsel and Leading Construction and Infrastructure Junior Counsel.
Fiona joined the Northern Territory Bar in 2021.
